Michael Crooks - Chief Executive Officer and President

Michael brings a depth of operations knowledge to Insight given his 24 years of experience in business management, product, and service development, organizational design and solution implementation. Michael specializes in delivering value through the adoption of enterprise solutions that advance business effectiveness and growth. He has held board and CEO positions at consulting firms and software companies in North America and was a senior manager at a major global telecommunications provider where he was responsible for worldwide technology adoption.

Joe Drimer - Vice President of Business Development

Joe is an accomplished builder of competitive advantage for companies with emerging technologies. He has developed significant sales growth through in the microcomputer industry as the Vice President of North American Sales for Acer America, a multibillion dollar computer manufacturer, and as the Vice President of Sales for MicroWholesalers, Inc., a pioneering networking and computer distributor. He has also held positions as the Manager of Marketing and Operations Research for Black & Decker’s Industrial/Construction Division. He has been an Assistant Professor at both the University of Baltimore and at Goucher College, and has a B.A. in Sociology and a B.S. in Information Systems Management, both from the University of Maryland, and a M.S. in Operations Research from The American University.

Venkat Mani - Chief Technology Officier

Venkat leads Insights’ product development and customer support initiatives. He draws upon his experience in establishing offshore development and support teams, developing and delivering software solutions and executing on strategic business and technology planning. Venkat holds both a master of business administration degree and a master of science degree in engineering and information technology.

Mark Smith - Co-founder, Chairman of the Board

As a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Insight Systems, Mark has more than 25 years experience in building and managing global startups. His track record of success includes launching and selling Smartvision, a company focused on convergent technologies over IP networks. Previously, he founded and later sold two other telecom and IT businesses, Hounslow Communications and 3D Computers.

Steve Anderson - Board Member

Steve Anderson brings a wealth of operational and managerial experience to Insight’s board. As founder and managing partner of Marquis Advisory Group, he provides intelligent management expertise to offshore businesses from Australia and New Zealand wanting to enter the U.S. market. Previously, Steve formed IG Partners Inc., a management firm based in the San Francisco Bay area. Prior to IG Partners, he was President of Six Sigma Group Inc., an investor strategy firm serving private, pre-public and public companies, for 10 years. He has served on the board of both public and private companies. Steve’s career also includes experience in operations and senior management in the technology, natural resources, publishing, and management services industries. After earning an English degree from St. Lawrence University, he put his writing skills to good use in his first professional position at The New York Times. In the middle of his career, he enriched his education at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.

John Johnson - Board Member

John Johnson brings more than 33 years experience in government IT acquisition to Insight’s board. John was the first Assistant Commissioner for GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service - Integrated Technology Service (ITS). Under John’s leadership, ITS is responsible for development, planning, management and operations of all GSA customer-facing IT and telecom contracts to support the missions of 135 federal agencies and departments. John earned a bachelor of science degree in applied behavioral science and a master of science degree in national resource strategy. He is a recipient of several awards including AFFIRM’s Leadership Award in Acquisition and Procurement, the Federal 100 Award, the Consumer Electronics Show’s Government Technology Leadership Award, the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service, the GCN Federal Executive of the Year award, and the Washington Contractors Association Public Partner of the Year Award. John’s has also served in active duty for the U.S. Navy and for several other government IT organizations.

Greg Smitherman - Board Member

Greg Smitherman contributes to Insight’s board drawing upon more than 20 years of experience working with early and mid-sized companies in a range of industries. As a seasoned investor, he has returned more than $1.3 billion in profits to his investors in the IT, manufacturing, telecommunications, wireless, and Internet industries. As a venture capitalist, Greg has been involved in all aspects of start-up management, including CEO and executive recruitment, strategy development and operations reviews. Greg brings a host of experience in business plan analysis, forecasting, strategic planning, competitive analysis and team dynamics. Greg received a bachelor of science degree in engineering, graduating summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan. He also earned a master in business administration degree from the University of Chicago.
